We Day Leadership Club
In the We Day Leadership Club students are invited to apply to club. Each year, 15-25 students will be chosen to become members of the club. Students that are accepted into the club are expected to participate in fundraising campaigns throughout the school year.
Commitment to the Club
- Two lunch periods per month over the school year, if necessary
- School year commitment (September-May)
- Attend the annual We Day Alberta event to be held at the Calgary Saddledome
We Day Alberta– Annual Event
We Day event celebrates the youth movement for local and global change. Free The Children’s annual event, We Day is the largest event of its kind, bringing together tens of thousands of youth and educators with celebrities, musicians and heroes sharing their inspirational stories.
Fundraising Campaigns
Within the leadership program in our school, the students participate in the following Free the Children campaigns throughout the school year. The campaigns are the following:
- We Scare Hunger (Month: October)
A campaign to collect non-perishable food items for local food bank in Calgary
- We Create Change (Month: January)
A campaign designed to change the world one coin at a time. Free the Children’s year of Education initiative has helped to build schools in developing communities around the world. Also, it has helped to raise money to buy goats for families to help sustain their communities.
- We Are Silent (Month: April)
A campaign designed to take a silent stand for everyone who is being bullied, exploited or denied their rights. Students raise money through a fundraiser of their choice to support developing communities around the world.
