Dear Staff and Parents/Guardians,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Aala Faraj, and I am the new school counselor for Almadina Language Charter Academy (Ogden Campus). In my recent years, I have only heard great things about Almadina, and I am very excited to be working with the school and community this year. Although this year is different due to the pandemic, I believe together we can make it worthwhile!
My passion for helping others is what led me to pursue a career as a counselor. My educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, and a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. I have a variety of experiences working in preschools, Before and After School programs, and daycares. My most recent training and counselling experience was at a private practice in Calgary. There I helped clients of all age ranges, backgrounds, and issues related to mental health.
What I love most about Elementary and Junior High students is their resiliency and tenacity in the face of adversity. These years are crucial for their self-discovery and personal growth. I am beyond thrilled to be given the opportunity to walk alongside them in this journey. My goal as the school counselor is to promote academic, social, and emotional development in all students through the use of effective therapy techniques and theory. This includes cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and narrative therapy to name a few. My work can include individual sessions, group sessions, and classroom observations. I am eager to work alongside the parents/guardians, teachers, and staff to achieve this goal and help support the needs of the students of Almadina.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you all and getting to know your students throughout the school year! ☺
