On Friday, April 20, the Grade Two classes had the opportunity to take part in a Ukrainian Cultural presentation and dance workshop in the Mountain View Campus gymnasium. Students began their morning by engaging in a discussion about Ukrainian history and culture while looking at some artwork and artifacts. Students then got to practice traditional Ukrainian dance choreography taught by a professional Ukrainian Dance Instructor. At the end of their session, students got to handle the cultural artifacts and try on colourful traditional clothing. This experience helped students better connect with their Social Studies Unit on Ukrainian Festivals and Traditions. Students now have a deeper understanding of the culture and people of Ukraine from taking part in an authentic, interactive and hands on learning experience. The Grade twos are very thankful to their guest speaker and instructor, Dean, for his efforts in engaging and inspiring them in a fun filled, high energy workshop!
