Hello dear parents, guardians, students and staff of Almadina Language Charter Academy (ALCA). We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to all of you.
Our names are Sherry Thaxter and Teresa Ferrario. We are the newly appointed Youth Development Counsellors (YDC) at ALCA. Mrs. Thaxter is full-time at the Ogden Campus and Mrs. Ferrario is part-time at the Mountain View Campus.
Counselling at ALCA is used as a tool and resource to help students succeed and to reach their full potentials. We provide various approaches to support academic, social and emotional growth along with meaningful goal setting. Counselling activities can include individual and group sessions, whole class presentations, observations as well as provide resources that you or your student can benefit from. Many of these activities will focus on helping students learn ways to build positive social skills, gain confidence in their abilities and strengths, and learn ways to manage difficult situations and conflicts.
Your student/child may be referred to counselling by a teacher, staff member, or parent/guardian. Parents can email the appropriate campus Youth Development Counselor directly via email. Alternately, you can call the school directly and speak with either the Inclusion Coordinator or the Counselor.
We are excited and honoured to be joining this amazing team of educators, staff, students and their families. It is our hope that as we get to know the entire community here at Almadina and become an important part of the team that helps our students learn, grow and achieve success.
We are thrilled to be working with all of you and looking forward to meeting all the families that help make Almadina Language Charter Academy a great community. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
